Lucky Us-Blue Whale Sighting

San Diego

A friend and I decided it was necessary to go on a whale watching tour. Why you ask? We discovered it was blue whale season while we were in San Diego. We had no idea there was such a season, hence “fear of missing out” crept into our minds prompting us to book our expedition into the pacific to check things out.

Fun Facts About Blue Whales

1. Blue whales are the largest animals to ever live on the planet, reaching maximum lengths of 110 (33.5 m) feet and weights of 330,000 pounds (150 metric tons).

2. Blue whales can live for 80 to 90 years on average.

3. Blue whales are the loudest animals on the planet capable of producing sounds that can be heard by other blue whales up to 1,000 miles away.

4. Blue whales can eat up to 12,000 pounds (5.4 metric tons) of krill in a day.

5. Blue whales swim 5 miles per hour on average but can swim more than 20 miles per hour in short bursts.1 More Blue Whale Facts

The outfit we selected for our adventure was Gone Whale Watching. We selected this tour because of the cool name; the advertising (fastest boat); and its location in Mission Bay San Diego.

36ft custom ACI Power Catamaran named the "Hana Hou" that is the fastest and sweetest ride in San Diego! The "Hana Hou" is our flagship vessel for public 2.5 hour tours, providing the very best sightings percentage of any boat in San Diego! Gone Whale Watching

Enjoy watching the gigantic, amazingly beautiful blue whale sighting captured on video during our excursion. The thrill of seeing the water spout blow before the whale surfaces is as exciting as seeing the fluke before the creature takes another deep dive to obtain more krill. Hopefully, you’ll feel as if you were on the Hana Hou while watching and hearing the cheering crowd as we all became mesmerized by what we were so lucky to observe.
